You might recall that there were two break-ins overnight on Monday/ Tuesday in Ventnor. Happily that’s something of a rarity.
We went down to have a chat earlier in the week to the businesses to find out how they’ve been affected.
Here’s Michael Spink, manager of the Ventnor Bay Cafe giving his view on the event.
As Michael said, “It’s the first time that anything like this has happened along Ventnor’s seafront.” Most telling of all “You know it happens elsewhere, but you don’t expect it to happen here – especially in Ventnor. You don’t get to hear about things like this.”
Money taken and a business days earnings
The boys running the cafe had what they estimate to be £50 of tips and their petty cash for the next day were stolen, but worse, lost a days takings while the police were in the next day and the glass door was being repaired. It being half term and a sunny day, it should have been a good day for takings.
It’s good to hear from Michael that the police were quite optimistic, but they can always do with hearing from more people on this, so if you know anyone who was around the Esplanade on Monday evening, get them to get in touch with the police. They may be able to pass on valuable information. [audio:http://otw-audio.s3.amazonaws.com/ventnor-bay-cafe-break-in-michael-spink.mp3]
