We’ve been told that the 5:15pm FastCat from Portsmouth crashed into the Ryde Pier head this evening.
We understand from regular commuters that were on the Vessel that the captain of the boat didn’t appear to slow down sufficiently approaching the Pier head.
When the FastCat hit, the passengers on the front seats were thrown forward and it’s believed that the two of the beams on the Pier head were damaged.
Passenger Ryan Todd said “Yeah it felt weird on the journey, it was going stupidly fast, and it was as if the boat went on it’s side once, (like when cars go 2 wheels), and it didn’t really slow when it docked, it just hit the pier, taking a massive chunk out of the pier and the boat.”
A number of subsequent sailing were cancelled with WightLink citing “operational requirements.”
After the publishing of this article, we’ve contacted WightLink and will update the story when we heard from them.
