Call for Town Meeting in Ventnor

Last updated:

An A4 piece of paper in the window of a shop in Ventnor town is calling for a Town Meeting to discuss the future of Ventnor Town Council – in effect calling for a vote of no confidence.

It states that it’s “pursuant of the Local Government Act 1972 schedule 12 Para 15(1)(d) to be held at the Holly (sp) Trinity church.”

(Link to the relevant Act)

It’s signed by six people who state that they are ‘local government electors.’ They are (in alphabetic order) Christine Benson; Robert Chuter; N Gibbs; Graham Morris (Vicar); P.R. Noble; K.J. Pratley and M Snipps.

Seven points
The seven points open with “We wish to place on record our disapproval that some of our Town Councillors having a total disregard for the smooth running of the Town Council, the total lack of respect of its Officers and care of its staff and the public that voted them in.”

For the rest of the points, have a look at the photo below that we took of the notice, that sits in the window of the shop that is run by one of the town councillors, Cllr Graham Perks.

The suggested date for the meeting is 24th March, 2010, two days before the official Extra Ordinary meeting planned by Ventnor Town Council on Friday, 26th March.

All governments said at last month’s climate crisis conference that we urgently have to stop doing these stupid things – the fossil carbon should stay in the ground, and fracking is particularly unwelcome, with it’s history of water abstraction and contamination, and so on. Our hypocritical government, still biased in favour of continuing to help a dirty and damaging industry, and… Read more »

Very good news indeed! This Government’s short-sightedness needs to be opposed at all levels. Now I hope the same can be done with a motion on TTIP.

Thank you so very much John and to all councillors who voted in favour of this resolution.
It is so encouraging to all islanders who are so very concerned for the safe future of our island.
We love this special home.
