Sad news reaches us that long-serving Ventnor Town Councillor Robbie Mew has passed away.
Robbie had been a councillor in Ventnor for 32+ years including periods as mayor.
Robbie cared deeply for his community and knew his mind, fighting hard for causes he believed in. In recent times he battled to keep the Undercliff as an A road, believing it was vital for the future well being of Ventnor.
For many years he ran Mew the Movers, selling it eventually, giving him time to enjoy a passion of his – golf.
Over the last couple of weeks the Earl Mountbatten Hospice has been looking after him.
Our thoughts are with his wife, Joan, his friends and family.
Update 17:58 26.May.2010
Rob’s funeral service will take place on Wednesday 2nd June at 2 p.m. at St Catherine’s Church, followed by private burial in Ventnor cemetery which is for family only.
Joan invites Rob’s friends for refreshments at Ventnor Golf Club after the service.
Thanks for Stewart Blackmore for the update.
