Regular VB readers will know how much we love the Paddle Steamer Monarch.
It was featured yesterday in Kurt’s latest musings (part two to come later today) and earlier in the year we took a trip down the Medina courtesy of Matt and Ian who run the steamer.
So it came as sad news to us yesterday when we heard that the PS Monarch is being put up for sale.
We spoke this morning with Matt about the situation.
He told us that unfortunately, next year he and Ian won’t have the time to run the steamer on a daily basis as they have been.
Going to auction
They’re hoping that someone with the time and facilities will pick her up at Island Auction Rooms on 28th August.
Matt told us he was keen that whoever takes the paddle steamer on would keep it as a passenger vessel rather than convert to a private boat.
Matt tells about future plans for a coal-powered vessel they hope to bring to the Medina over the next year and urged Islanders to jump on board the Monarch asap.
