Music Grid: Make Music Easily

The progression of creating music is continuing to develop.

Music gridWe saw this on Chris Jones’ Island site Chemical Gardens and were transfixed for over half an hour.

It’s a very easy-to-use sequencer, which kindly fools you into thinking that you have musical talent.

Easy to use
Move your mouse over the grid and click the boxes, this causes sounds to be triggered, repeating in a loop. The higher up the grid, the higher the note – simple eh?

Want the note not to play, click it again to turn it off.

Holding the mouse down and moving it around on the grid lets you ‘paint’ notes on and off.

The tones have been chosen to be sympathetic to one and other, so you can’t really make any music that sounds discordant.

Upcoming show
Chris Jones has a Chemical Gardens show coming up at Quay Arts in September.

We’ve had to reduce the size of the gird to fit on our page, but if you want to see the whole thing, pop over to Chris’ site.
