The Leander: Is It Anchored In Sandown Bay?

The presence of a rather flash-looking yacht just off the coast of the Isle of Wight is causing much activity amongst Island Facebookers this afternoon.

The Leander in Sandown BaySal Maloney-Jeffares sent through a long distance shot of the yacht in question, bobbing away on the water in Sandown Bay.

The yacht has since been identified by Jo Jamieson & Jeremy Burch as The Leander, dubbed by its owners as “amongst a handful of the largest and most luxurious yachts available for private charter in the World”.

The LeanderRumours are abound that Prince Consort of Denmark is aboard the luxury yacht, which boasts a crew of 25, two Master suite cabins with office/study and saloon, three double guest cabins with en-suite bathrooms and five twin guest cabins with bathrooms.

The Leander dining roomWhoever it is that’s aboard the luxury yacht, the Island must look fantastic from it at the moment, the sun is shining and the sea and sky are a beautiful blue.

Nice little ship. It used to be owned by Donald Gosling, the owner of NCP. Perhaps we can blame him for giving council’s the idea that there is big money in car parking charges?

Wikipedia reckons that it can be chartered for a mere US $490,000 per week … plus expenses naturally.

Here’s the upside, as it’s registered in the Bahamas, there’s no VAT to pay.

The Dannebrog, the Danish Royal Yacht, was moored off Cowes on Sunday, so reports of Danish royalty on yachts may well be true.

At least they have got their own loos’ with them; so no problem there. Maybe that is the future for Island tourism, advertised as “bring a loo”.
