Following its successful introduction last year, a field of remembrance will once again be opened at Carisbrooke Castle this November.
Established by the Lord Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight, Major-General Martin White, the field of remembrance is a place where residents can pay their respects and plant a cross for those who lost their lives serving the country.
Where and when
It is located in the Princess Beatrice Garden, a tranquil walled garden behind the castle’s chapel.
The castle will open its doors for people to visit the field of remembrance between 10am and 12 noon on Thursday 10 and Friday 11 November when it is normally closed to the public. The Royal British Legion will make crosses available for purchase at the castle’s shop.
Residents can also visit on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 November during the castle’s normal weekend opening hours which are 10am to 4pm.
Free bus from Newport
Southern Vectis has generously agreed to supply a free bus from Newport bus station up to the castle each day departing 10.30am from the library stand and returning 11.45am Thursday, 11.30am Friday and 12.30pm at the weekend.
A service of remembrance will take place at the castle on Thursday 10 November at 10.45am which members of the public are welcome to attend.
