Body Recovered From Cliffs Near Botanic Garden (Updated)

News has reached us that Police and Ventnor Coastguard have been spending time around Steephill Cove today.

We understand that a body has been recovered from the rocks at the bottom of the cliff to the west of Steephill, by the Ventnor Botanic Garden.

As the Police and Coastguards were packing up, a private ambulance was seen pulling away.

This just in from the Police, in their words – Ed.

Police can confirm a body was found in the Ventnor area on the Isle of Wight today (Tuesday, November 15, 2011).

Officers were called to the beach near Steephill Cove shortly after 1.30pm when the body of a man was found by a member of the public.

The death is not being treated as suspicious at this time.

Police are in the process of informing next-of-kin.

The body is due to be formally identified later this week when an initial post-mortem examination into the cause of death will also take place.

Police have informed HM Coroner who will open an inquest in due course.
