Since the drastic reduction in the number of bees came to public attention, there’s been a surge from the general interest in keeping bees.
To increase the number of bee keepers on the Island, the Isle of Wight Bee Keeping Association (IWBKA) is running a six-week course about the theory of keeping bees, starting on 2nd February.
It’s a good preparation for those who want to take up the craft of beekeeping and possibly join the Island association, the IWBKA tell us.
Don’t be put off by thinking that you need to have the space for your own hive. The skills you learn on the course will be able to be used at the Quarr Abbey teaching Apiary (where bees live to you and me), where the practical side of beekeeping will be covered, free of charge, after the course.
Amazing value
Here’s the amazing thing – thanks to a lottery grant, it’s only going to be £25 for the whole six lessons.
Hurry though, places are limited and at that price, they’re like to go quickly.
