This week sees the annual budget proposals go before the Isle of Wight council.
Councillors will be making decisions on spending for the coming year from 5pm on Wednesday at County Hall.
One area that sees investment is the ‘procurement project’ for the forthcoming Waste Contract (ie. the council deciding who to award the contract to).
The current PFI waste contract runs out in 2015 and the council budget papers show that the ruling Conservative group are planning to put aside £1,000,000 for the project in 2012/13.
“Major complex procurement exercise”
As item 70 in the budget report states …
The Waste Contract is due for renewal from 1 November 2015 and will require significant one-off resources to undertake what will be a major complex procurement exercise.
This will involve both internal resources and the use of a range of external contractors to provide the necessary professional and industry expertise.
It will be essential that an appropriate level of resources is provided for procuring the contract in order to deliver value for money and to keep on going revenue costs down. Subject to detailed costings being worked up it is proposed at this stage it would be prudent to set aside at least £1m for 2012/13.
