As mentioned back on VB in April, the Joint Committee of the Primary Care Trusts of England were scheduled to meet today to announce their decision on the future of eleven children’s heart surgery units across England.
Readers will remember the Have A Heart Campaign, which was launched last year after the Government announced plans to cut the number of children’s heart units in the country from 11 to six or seven. Southampton Children’s Heart Surgery Unit was only given a 25% of being saved.
ResultThe Committee has just announced that Southampton unit would be saved, avoiding the need for Island children to travel as far as London or Bristol for treatment.
Option B has been selected.
Well done to all those who made their voices heard and campaigned to keep the unit at Southampton.
