Simon Hayes, Independent, elected as Police and Crime Commissioner

Following yesterday’s election for a Police and Crime Commissioner for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, the Independent candidate, Simon Hayes has won the vote.

After the first count this morning, the candidates were narrowed down to Michael Mates (Con) and Simon Hayes (Ind).

The results of the second count were released this afternoon.

Simon Alexander Hayes (Ind): 47,632 (1st pref) 33,037 (2nd pref) 80,669 (total)
Michael Mates (Con): 52,616 (1st pref) 13,188 (2nd pref) 65,804 (total)

Chief Constable Alex Marshall said: “On behalf of the force, I would like to congratulate Simon Hayes on his election to the role of Police & Crime Commissioner for Hampshire.

“Hampshire is a successful forward-thinking force which has seen a significant reduction in crime levels across the two counties over the past five years.

“We look forward to working with Simon Hayes as the new commissioner to continue to build on this success and provide a policing service which meets the needs of our communities.”

Was this actually a bribe- or more likely a threat to take the funding away if Bob didn’t come across for Bojo?

Can’t see a problem. For once, I agree with Bob. Boris is far to fond of making promises and not keeping them. Bob has highlighted this and got the press attention. You seem to have forgotten that Seely has repeatedly voted to reduce funding to local councils.

He’s not part of the solution, he’s part of the problem.

Boris Johnson is Prime Minister because the Tories are the party in government. At the last election Johnson’s history of mendacity and cheating were well known, yet the people of the IOW still voted for the Tories.
