You might have noticed that the Isle of Wight council’s iwight Website is unavailable today, with them citing ‘Technical issues’.
Several readers have been in touch with OnTheWight about it this morning, so we saw this as the perfect opportunity to launch what we’re calling old-iwight.
New site – Hard to find info
Others might have tried (when it’s available) to use the new version of the council site, but ended up frustrated by not being able to find what you’re looking for – we know we have.
March 2013 version – Frozen
Happily, OnTheWight figured that this might occur, so we chatted to Isle of Wight tech supremo, WightGeek, and together we made extensive preparation in advance of the launch of the council’s ‘improved’ Website.
It involved gathering all of the content that was available from the previous version of the Website and combined this with the technical wizardry of WightGeek to produce as close a version of the old site as possible. Essentially we took a ‘snapshot’ of the council’s site as it was in March 2013.
Wightgeek then optimised the living-heck out of the server so our version of the site should give performance speeds quite unlike the old council Website ever did.
Here’s the archived site
Fellow Islanders, we present to you old-iwight. OnTheWight and WightGeek both hope that you find it helpful.
