Arrest over Ecoisland fraud enquiries (Update 2)

In the latest twist of the spectacular Ecoisland revelation this week – first OnTheWight revealing that Eco Island Partnership CIC was moving to liquidation, then Isle of Wight council announcing that they were concerned that £115,000 of a £240,000 grant to EcoIsland was unaccounted for – the Isle of Wight Police have this evening confirmed that they have arrested a 54-year-old man on suspicion of fraud.

The Police say, “He is currently assisting police with their enquiries.”

CP name David Green
Police rules for arrests are generally not to name those arrested – and in this case they have not. Isle of Wight Police refuse to name the person arrested this afternoon.

The County Press, which has for years been highly-supportive of David Green and his Ecoisland project, have taken the unusual step of attaching his name to the arrest saying

A spokeswoman for Isle of Wight police confirmed this afternoon (Thursday) that officers had arrested a 54-year-old man — understood to be David Green — on suspicion of fraud and he was helping police with their enquiries.

Mismatch of ages
The age of the person Police report as arrested, 54, and that Company records have for David John Green, the sole director of Ecoisland Partnership CIC, 52, are at odds.

Update 10:10am 4 Oct 2013 After OnTheWight questioned the age difference with Isle of Wight Police last night, they have just come back to us to confirm that they issued the wrong age. The man arrested was 52.
