At Thursday night’s Scrutiny meeting, Cllr Richard Priest, the Executive member for Children’s Services told members that an amendment in relation to the future of the Music Service would be revealed today (Friday).
An addendum to the paper heading to next Tuesday’s Executive meeting was released this morning which proposes a new recommendation. If approved, it means the Music Service will be given a year’s grace to put in place alternative commercial arrangements before converting to the Music Hub.
Savings of £100,000 needed
The Music Service will be asked to realise savings of £100,000 through a restructure of the Service, with a target of a further £40,000 savings.
The council will fund the other £100,000 needed through using underspends from other service budgets.
Members were due to debate and vote on the following option
Option 1
Isle of Wight Council facilitates the development of the hub under new management
arrangements to be in place by 1st September 2014. The Music Service ceases operation
on 31st August 2014.
This has now been superseded by the addendum paper which calls on the Executive to discuss and vote on the following recommendation:
Option 4 is recommended, because it reflects these developments, and reads as
follows: To facilitate the development of an invigorated Music Education Hub for the
Island, engaging with stakeholders to build a sustainable solution for launch
September 2015. The Isle of Wight Music Service to undergo a restructure to
realise efficiency savings, with council funding for this service to cease from
31 August 2015.
