Councillor calls for Festivals to help boost financial support for Music Service

At last night’s Scrutiny Committee meeting, Cllr Chris Whitehouse suggested that organisers of music festivals held on the Isle of Wight might be called upon to help find a financial solution for the much-loved but loss-making Music Service.

Cllr Whitehouse made the suggestion,

“We do have a great tradition of music, Bestival, Festival, Rhythymtree. Could we challenge the new path moving forward to look outside the income from parents paying for tuition and actually get some big projects going with the big commercial players for the Island, that will boost their image and also boost funding for the Music tuition.”

Positive signals from Bestival boss
Cllr Priest, the Executive member for Children’s Services, told members he has already had a meeting with Rob da Bank (Bestival) and that “there’s a positive wish to support things”.

OnTheWight tweeted the suggestion during the meeting, including Rob da Bank and John Giddings in the tweet. Neither have yet replied or commented on the suggestion.
