Islanders and visitors are invited to look behind the scenes at Briddlesford Lodge Farm on Open Farm Sunday, 8th June at 3pm.
Briddlesford is a working dairy farm with a milking herd of 150 prize winning pedigree Guernsey cows. There are a further 150 young stock, made up of heifers and calves, some being bred for milk, and some for veal.
What you’ll see
Visitors will be shown the milking herd, the barns and machinery, and be able to watch the milking. Weather permitting, there will be tractor rides around the fields to see the crops growing and the pastures for grazing. Most importantly, visitors can get up close to cows and calves and touch and stroke them, and let them suck their fingers.
All will be offered a drink of the well known Briddlesford Buttercup milk.

Open Farm Sunday
Open Farm Sunday, is a national event organised by LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming).
Nearly 1 million people have visited farms on Open Farm Sunday, since the first one was held in 2006, experiencing the joy of discovering the great outdoors down on the farm. Briddlesford has taken part every year, proud to show the public how the Griffin family farm.
Paul Griffin, partner at Briddlesford Lodge Farm, said,
“This is a great afternoon out with a difference and so much to discover! It is a great opportunity to experience REAL farming at first hand and to meet Britain’s farmers. Here at Briddlesford we farm to the highest welfare standard, and we welcome the opportunity to join in with this national event. We want the public to know how we care for our animals, and how milk is produced.”
