Police have confirmed that two women have been arrested following an incident in Sandown in the early hours of Wednesday, 4 June.
They say a 48-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of grevious bodily harm with intent, as well as a 24-year-old woman, arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. Both remain in police custody.
Life changing injuries
The arrests follows reports of a 22-year-old woman from Sandown being admitted to hospital with serious facial burns, believed to be caused by a corrosive liquid. She has been transferred to a specialist burns unit, suffering life changing injuries.
Police believe this is an isolated incident and are not looking for anyone else in relation to this attack.

Police advise the 24 year old woman has been bailed until next week pending further inquiries and the 48 year old remains in custody.

Police investigating an assault in Sandown in the early hours of Wednesday, June 4 have now charged a 48-year-old woman from Ryde has been charged with one count of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and is due to appear at Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Friday, June 6.
