Executive members are expected to give the go-ahead next week for authorised work to take place on the re-patched section of Undercliff Drive.
Papers for next week’s Executive meeting were released yesterday, revealing the recommendation to
Undertake a combination of pedestrian access and a low cost limited access road from the west work to commence and be completed as soon as is practicably possible.
Not full vehicular access
The report states that it’s likely vehicular access could be provided only as far as a point just to the west of the property, Rondebosch, “as the Woodlands failure has affected the carriageway beyond that point”.
It goes on to say, “However a suitable pedestrian access could potentially be provided to the four properties located on the north side of the road in this area from that point.”
Whether access beyond the current closure point would be for residents only will need to be considered, but the papers suggest this should not unnecessarily delay the commencement of works on site.
Volunteer re-patched road
After eight and a half months of no practical action to help residents return to their homes, volunteers re-patched a section of the landslipped road.
