Still no news on recovery of £500,000 payment made in error to bankrupt company (updated)

Remember the case of £500,000 that was paid in error by an Isle of Wight council officer to a bankrupt company last year?

The payment was made to Pihl Ltd, the bankrupt contractor who built Cowes Enterprise College after a council officer had been tasked with ensuring that any outstanding purchase orders for Pihl Ltd were cancelled. However, instead they did the exact opposite and paid the company a whopping £517,878 inc VAT (£431,565 ex).

The council have been trying to recover the money ever since, but delays in the hearing have led to frustration.

No news from hearing
The postponed hearing was supposed to take place yesterday (29th January). The Sheriff had adjourned the case from December, after the other side asked for time to rewrite their written case.

Leader of the Isle of Wight council, Cllr Jonathan Bacon, confirmed to OnTheWight there had been no news by close of business yesterday.

We’ll let you know once we hear more.

Update 31.1.2015
Cllr Bacon was kind enough to update us on Saturday morning, saying,

“Found out yesterday afternoon that the court had time problems on Thursday and the case didn’t even get called on! It has therefore been adjourned again until 13th February.”
