A league table ranking care services across the country has been published today that claims the Isle of Wight ranks as the worst county in the country for care quality.
The table was created by an online directory that reviews care providers.
As has been widely reported through OnTheWight, in 2014 the CQC introduced fundamental changes to its inspection regime, resulting in a more robust way of inspecting and rating providers.
Only a third of services inspected under new regime
There are 115 registered care services on the Isle of Wight, these include care homes (70), nursing homes (13), home care agencies (18) and other care services (14). Of those 115 services, only 33 have been inspected so far under the new regime.
CQC inspectors found ten services to be ‘Good’, 15 ‘Require Improvement’ and eight were found to be ‘Inadequate’.
How the calculations were reached
We asked Trusted Care the means by which they calculated the positions on the league table, they replied the formula itself was commercially confidential, but as can clearly be seen from the numbers the Isle of Wight is lowest on services rated ‘Good’ and highest on services rated ‘Requires Improvement’.
Care home costs
While the Isle of Wight is languishing on the bottom of their quality table, it sits in the middle of the cost of care home per week table.
The Isle of Wight is the 22nd most expensive, with the average care home prices at £525 per week. The average nursing home cost in Isle of Wight is £777 per week and the average home care cost is £16 per hour or £10 per half hour.
