If you haven’t seen the new exhibition in the West Gallery at Quay Arts Centre in Newport, we’d highly recommend it. Ed
Quay Arts’ Young Curators and Studio Quay students from High Schools on the Isle of Wight, visited David Hockney’s ‘A Bigger Picture’ exhibition at the Royal Academy in March 2012.
Through examining the panoramic-like qualities in his work and reflecting on the inspirational landscape of the Isle of Wight, this exploratory exhibition investigates our relationship with the land in the 21st Century from the standpoint of artist, student and visitor.
Tim Johnson worked with 256 students
Working collaboratively over a two week period, lead artist Tim Johnson worked with 256 students from seven Island schools to create an enormous panoramic landscape, stretching around 58 metres of The West Gallery.
Six prominent Island artists also contributed to the piece as well as Quay Arts’ team of Young Curators who kick-started the exhibition with a movable horizon line. Come & visit the exhibition and see where the line takes you!
The exhibition runs from now until 8th September.
