Colin Riches is the last in our series of profiles of Island artists featured in David George’s 5 Films About Artists which is being screened at Quay Arts tonight from 7.30pm.
As with the other artists featured over the last week or so on VentnorBlog, Colin will be well known to Islanders and art lovers alike.
His exhibitions on the Island go back as far as the early 1980s and he has exhibited off the Island far and wide.
Colin works with a variety of mediums, sculpture, printmaking, mixed media, drawing and painting. A flick through his Web site revels his diverse approach to expressing himself.
Colin’s recent work explores how his own spirituality has been shaped by twentieth century modernism.
He says that his personal journey has been a quest to reconcile these two aspects of his life.
My intention is to use the materials, concepts and aesthetic of contemporary art as a way of apprehending something of the mystery and presence at the heart of life, without compromising either artistic integrity or spiritual truth.
Colin will be at Quay Arts tonight along with Eric Geddes, Jenny Clayden, Derek Barran and Janice Thwaites, for the screening, so if you have any burning questions you’d like to ask, tonight is your chance.
