5 Oxford Terrace: Is it still there?

5 Oxford Terrace: Is it still there? We pick up readers from all around the World, not only people planning to visit Ventnor and wanting to find out more, but also those who used to live here and are keen to find out what’s going on in town these days.

Michael Pattenden is just one of those readers. He’s been living in the US for the last 32 years, and after checking out the town on Google Earth, is wondering if his previous home is still standing.

He previously lived at 5 Oxford Terrace, which is behind buildings on the corner of Albert Street and Victoria Street.

We’ve seen the (fairly) new builds on the corner of Victoria Street, but are not sure what sits behind them these days, so thought we’d pick your brains dear readers.

Here’s what Michael has to say.

Hello, my family lived in Oxford Terrace for several years from 1951. I recently looked at pictures of Ventnor using Google Earth and the whole area between the corner of Albert St., Victoria St. and the theatre seems to have changed – new houses, smaller car park etc. Can anybody tell me if 5 Oxford Terrace, the only house left when I visited several years ago, still exists?

You could see the front of the houses looking through the passage way at the Volunteer pub. on Victoria St.

Thanks for your help.

So folks, what is behind the new doctors surgery? Does Michael’s old home still exist or has it been bulldozed? He’d love to know.
