According to an Island Roads diversion notice, Undercliff Drive, has reopened to through-traffic. Or has it?
Undercliff Drive (the A3055) was closed to traffic following landslides which occurred in 2014 whilst Island Roads were carrying out ‘major engineering works’.
Diversion route
However, a temporary road closure notice has been issued by Island Roads today (Wednesday) relating a small section of Ventnor Road near the junction of St Lawrence Shute, where road furniture defects need attention.
Island Roads are suggesting that drivers divert via Undercliff Drive – along the same stretch of road that has been closed for more than a decade.
Awaiting advice
OnTheWight has written to Island Roads to ask them to confirm the diversion route. As the road has been closed to through traffic for more than a decade, it’s highly unlikely that it has been reopened now.
A spokesperson for Island Roads advised that the diversion route was an error and is being corrected now/
Drivers are advised to use the route via Upper Ventnor and Wroxall, or Shanklin to enter or exit the town.
Thanks to Stuart George for the heads up
