Audience at the church concert

Newchurch Male Voice Choir unites with Sea Gels Shanty Band for charity concert

The Newchurch Male Voice Choir (see: newchurchmvc.co.uk) and the Sea Gels Shanty Bandjoined forces on Sunday the 9th March at Shanklin Methodist Church to present a concert in support of the work of the Isle of Wight Branch of the MND Association.

To the delight of both groups the church was full to bursting and the contrasting repertoires produced an enjoyable and interesting programme.

The size and generosity of the audience was such that through the proceeds of the retiring collection and raffle, the MND Association (Isle of Wight) will benefit by at least £750.

Chris Lund, Chairman of the MND Association, revealed that there are currently 19 persons on the Island known to the branch that have been diagnosed with MND, and he explained how funds are used to provide assistance to those suffering, including equipment, travel costs, and extra care, as well as support for their families.

Bob Cooper said,

“There are members of both choirs who have a close relative who is stricken with MND. Singing is our way of showing our support to them.

“We are most grateful to our supporters who have contributed to raising these vital funds that we know will be kept on the Island and used practically.”
