Abbey Brass revives seaside concert tradition in Ryde after 30-year absence

An Island brass band is bringing back seaside concerts in Ryde after an absence of more than 30 years.

Abbey Brass will entertain crowds at Eastern Gardens on the Esplanade in July and August – a tradition not seen or heard since the early 1990s.

The outdoor concerts on Sundays 27th July and 17th August 2025 at 3pm are supported by Ryde Town Council and could lead to more performances from Island bands next year.

Part of an English tradition going back to the Victorian age
Abbey Brass chairman Andy Croucher said,

“The band are very much looking forward to working with Ryde Town Council and bringing back brass band concerts to Ryde seafront.

“Brass bands performing by the seaside is part of an English tradition going back to the Victorian age and we hope this is the start of regular concerts by Island bands in years to come.”
