Following the announcement made by the council in May, the first rural broadband cabinets are now being installed to serve properties in Shorwell and Shalfleet.
BT were chosen in September 2013 as the preferred bidder for the Isle of Wight Rural Broadband Project.
A budget of £3m was approved for the project which was due for completion in September 2015.
The project was completed in August 2016 with a £1.7m underspend.
