Thomas believes the council should be looking to protect local employers as well as core services, saying local ISPs may suffer because of their decision to give BT £3.65m in the rural broadproject rollout project.
BT were chosen in September 2013 as the preferred bidder for the Isle of Wight Rural Broadband Project.
A budget of £3m was approved for the project which was due for completion in September 2015.
The project was completed in August 2016 with a £1.7m underspend.
