The Isle of Wight council’s strategic manager says they cannot make everybody happy, but that the scheme will enhance the public realm and get much better pedestrian prioritisation in the area than there currently is
A new Interchange at Ryde Gateway, where bus, hover, train and catamaran meet gained planning approval in 2006.
It included an iconic, landmark interchange building, however, budgetary changes (due to the financial crisis in 2008) contributed to the project going no further.
A chance to reignite part of the plans arose in 2020 and work is due to begin in early 2021.
