Some of the lantern parades have already twinkled their way across the Island, but this Thursday sees the Ventnor Lantern Parade take place.
If you have attended on of the successful lantern making workshops over the past few weeks then you’ll already know to assemble in the car park by the Ventnor Youth Club at 5.45pm.
This year the parade will be lead by the Ventnor Carnival Queens Float and will go around the town and finish at the park for “Carols in the Park” at 6.30pm.
The singing will be lead by The United Singers of Ventnor and there will be mulled wine, mince pies and Father Christmas.
The route is: Market Street, Albert Street, Pier Street, High Street, Victoria Street, Dudley Road, Pier Street, Church Street, Belgrave Road, Park Road and into the park.
Lots of lanterns have been made over the past couple of weeks – a real variety of shapes and sizes, in true Ventnor style. They range from traditional lanterns and stars to Christmas trees and even a birthday cake and a skull! Some giant lanterns have also been made including a giant penguin.
Drivers beware
There will be a rolling road closure in place while the parade is taking place. Motorists should not be held up for very long as the roads will be re-opened as soon as the parade has passed by, but please be patient if you are affected or avoid the town during this time.
