Have Your Say On Changes to Ventnor Parking

If you live or work in Ventnor, then you might already be aware of a current public consultation on changes to Traffic Regulation Orders around the town.

Have Your Say On Changes to Ventnor Parking In basic terms, what this means is that the Isle of Wight Council (IWC) are proposing changes to the parking restrictions in many of the roads in Ventnor and you have an opportunity to let them know what you think about it.

In some cases there seems to be an improvement, such as along part of the High Street where the 30 minute waiting limit has been increased to one hour, but in other places parking for almost an entire road is planned to be removed.

Before we all get too hot and bothered, let’s remember that this is a consultation and we have a right to make our views known to the Isle of Wight Council (1st January is the closing date).

Where’s the logic?
When taking something like the changes proposed to St Catherine’s Street (removal of 20 parking spaces), it’s hard to imagine that those who came up with the plan have ever stepped foot in Ventnor.

Anyone who lives or has visited Ventnor will know that parking is a premium and we can’t see where the officers are expecting those who currently park their cars in the road to go.

Just how the IWC can justify removing 20 parking spaces in an area that is already pushed, is quite beyond us and the several people we’ve heard from.

Petitions raised
Further east in Bonchurch, a petition with over 200 signatures can be found at the Bonchurch Inn, where objection is being raised to double yellow lines being placed along the road outside the popular pub.

If you have an interest in what happens to parking provision in the Ventnor area, we’d suggest that you take a look at the draft proposals below and make your views known to the IWC asap.

It might also be worth getting in touch with your Town Councillor as well and letting others who will be affected know.
