Feel-good ukulele tunes and an uplifting brass band will bring cheer to visitors to Vernon Square, Ryde, at a late summer music celebration on Saturday 17th September beginning at 2pm.
The ever popular RUG Band, Vectis Brass and Steve Love will perform live in the Square’s garden, which is open to the public and cared for by volunteers.
Another popular artist will be former Platform One Music College, Newport, graduate, singer songwriter, Izzy Russell.
‘Come back’ event
After a two-year Covid interval the Square’s Conservation Society are holding a ‘come back’ event with refreshments including soft drinks, wine and fizz.
Other attractions include a raffle with prizes, all to be won on the day, plus delicious home baked savouries and cakes.
All are welcome for a modest £1 entrance fee, and you might want to bring garden chairs and rugs for extra comfort.
Please note Vernon Square is a dog-free zone, save for on duty Guide Dogs.
Raising money for the Conservation Society
All proceeds will be going to The Vernon Square Conservation Society to help preserve and the colourful garden, the only one of its kind on the Isle of Wight, for everyone to enjoy.
The once derelict square, off Melville Street, was rescued by local campaigners and officially opened by the late environmentalist David Bellamy in 1989. The Society purchased the land and turned it into a quiet green retreat.
