Following up on the story of the fire at Amazon World, we called them this afternoon.
It was good to hear from Sian Sayers there that they’re open for business, with visitors being unaffected as yesterday’s fire was around the back in a maintenance area, away from the public area.
Quarantine building lost
Sadly they’ve lost their quarantine building, but happily it didn’t contain animals at the time.
Two rats that were bred to feed some of the exhibit-animals died and a number of pieces of equipment like grass strimmers, tractors and other tools were lost in the fire.
The fire broke out after the park was closed to the public yesterday evening and was spotted by zoo park staff who acted quickly calling the emergency services.
The Amazon World staff were full of praise for the fire fighters who attended the blaze for bringing under control so quickly.
