Andrew Turner: Ferry Submission to be handed over on Monday

Here’s a press release, that we’ve just had in from Andrew Turner’s office about his campaign over ferry prices – Ed.

The Island’s MP Andrew Turner has announced that his submission to the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) will be handed to them on Monday 21st July along with extensive evidence and comments received from the public, businesses and other organisations. It will not be possible for the final submission documents to be made public due to confidentiality issues, but so much information has been received that the original document (as published on his website) has more than doubled in size and there is a large box of supporting evidence and information.

Mr Turner said:

“I know the final submission has taken some time to put together but it has taken a great deal of work – not least because we have received over 8,000 representations, many with very useful information. I can assure everyone who took the trouble to respond that we have read all your comments and used the information supplied. Now it is a question of waiting to hear from the OFT.”

Peter Linacre, who owns Joe’s in Ryde and Newport said:

“Officers from the OFT have told us that they act on only 6% of the requests they receive each year – so there is a high threshold to cross – but the final submission is a well-argued and robust document that should convince them that there is a real need for an investigation. Andrew Turner has done a great job on this, and I am impressed by how he has used the evidence supplied by the public to add strength to the original document. There has been a small team of us helping with this project and we will carry on doing whatever we can to ensure that it is successful.”

You can still express your support for the campaign and give further information via Mr Turner’s website.
