Andrew Turner’s 2012 Summer Surgery

Last updated:

This in from Andrew Turner’s office, in their own words. Ed

Andrew Turner:Andrew Turner, the Island’s MP will soon be out and about around the Island with his annual Summer Surgery. Islanders will have the opportunity to talk to their MP about any local or national matters that concern them as he will be covering the whole Island over the next two weeks.

“Many people use this as an opportunity to raise issues that they don’t feel merits a special trip to my surgery in Newport, or just to ‘get something off their chests’.

Chance to hear what people are thinking
“I very much enjoy the Summer Surgery and it really gives me a chance to hear what people are thinking across the Island.

“If you have something you want to raise, no appointment is necessary – just turn up and tell me about it. I will also be at the Garlic Festival on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th Mr Turner’s Summer Surgery is supported by Premier Ford who lend him a suitable vehicle that can be used as a surgery for privacy or if the weather is inclement.”

Nice to see our MP giving up a week of his seven weeks holiday. With the Olympics in a potential dangerous state of turmoil, I feel that all MPs should be recalled to the House until the games are completed. No doubt, many MPs will be in attendance in the VIP freebie sections; sampling the champagne that has been donated by the sponsors of all the things… Read more »

This is billed as an exercise in listening to concerns and sounding public opinion but, don’t be fooled, this is principally about Mr Turner – who enjoys public recognition as the Island MP – being seen by as many people as possible in the constituency. He does not take notes or write follow-up letters, that is left to his assistants. To be fair, it is a punishing… Read more »

He’s supposed to be a bus user: “No. 1 is the one for me”.
I’ve seen him on the free bus from Southampton station to the ferry dock, but I’ve never seen him on an Island bus.
Go green Mr. T and stay home.

Beat the rush & don’t queue, just enter an oddly shaped vegetable at one of the fetes he’s attending and….you can see where this is going….

Oh for goodness sake-he is one of the few MPs that knocks on doors EVERY Saturday, election or not and is probably one of the most accessible members with the largest constituency. Why on earth do people feel the need to kick him every time his name appears on VB? You might not agree with his politics, but he is an excellent local MP far better than… Read more »

Yes! Six weeks is far too long a break for any public servant. Time for change. Most teachers take on other work, whilst on this long break, some however, will tell you that they are marking homework. They (MPs) return after this long break, then after two weeks have another break. Is it any wonder that a politicians job is top of the list for ex Etonian’s… Read more »

You will not miss anything if he does not knock on your door, anything awkward he will doge and leave his assistants to make the right sounds then do nothing, believe me I have tried.

He’s no fool is he? Why would he want to knock at the door of a (red) card carrying leftie, who proposes standing for Labour against the Tory party?

If you ask me, Mr Turner seems well able to efficiently manage his time.

You have nailed your colours to the mast so often, no-one takes any notice these days – as an observer -you lack credibility.

If you believe Andrew Turner writes replies to constituents you are in for a shock. He does not, he is the front man but it is his assistants who do all the note-taking, research and letter writing. Given his volume of correspondence, of course he needs help but over the years Mr Turner has grown idle and sometimes shows his boredom and irritation when approached by constituents.… Read more »

Teachers? Yes, string ’em up. And anyone else who seems to have longer holidays / better wages or pensions than me.

As far as I know, Andrew Turner is very particular to answer letters and emails and regularly gives attentive responses rather than the junior-gofer pap that sometimes passes for a reply from County Hall. He also picks his battles well and is very affective where he can see he will be able to make a difference. All in all, a very different shade of blue to the… Read more »

The man has never responded to anything I have ever sent him..from invitations to comment of subjects to invitations to take part in cross party questions…to specific questions. I find him to be totally in effective in anything he has done and his petty disagreement with the council is as much his fault as theirs and effects all of us. His pro hunting stance is his over… Read more »

No5, you are obviously very political so your posts on VB are clearly heavily influenced by your personal political views.
