Angel Radio and Nation Broadcasting partner for Isle of Wight DAB licence bid

Long established non-profit community broadcaster Angel Radio Isle of Wight and regional commercial broadcaster Nation have teamed up to apply to Ofcom for a small scale DAB digital radio multiplex licence for the Isle of Wight.

If the application is successful, it will enable radio stations to broadcast to just the Isle of Wight on DAB digital radio for the first time.

Webster: Teaming with Nation makes good sense for us
The Isle of Wight application is a venture between local FM broadcaster Nation and Island FM broadcaster Angel Radio Isle of Wight. Chris and Bev Webster, Managers of Angel Radio Isle of Wight said,

“As the Island’s oldest Ofcom licensed community radio station, we have seen the good that radio can do to serve the community, especially underserved members of the older generation.

“We know that many of our listeners now have DAB radios and we want to be able to reach them and we look forward to a digital future for our station.

“Teaming with Nation makes good sense for us as they are a commercial operator that cares about community radio.”

Bryant: A proven track record in supporting broadcasters
Jason Bryant, Executive Chairman of Nation Broadcasting said,

“Nation has been involved in small scale DAB right from the early days of the Ofcom trials, from running multiplexes to backing them with our own services and deploying world leading technology through our DAB multiplex business Factum Radioscape.

“Nation has a proven track record in supporting broadcasters, both commercial and non-profit in achieving access to DAB digital radio, and I am excited for the opportunity for Nation to lead on DAB digital radio development in the Isle of Wight.”

Prospective radio services should make contact about being included on the Angel Radio Isle of Wight and Nation Broadcasting bid, should register their interest at www.muxcast.com

Here in Ventnor, I don’t receive DAB radio signals.
On a good day, the FM signal is reasonable. But is sometimes interrupted by our friends in France.
I almost exclusively listen to radio via the internet. And then I’ll often listen to programming at a time to suit me.
Like television, the days of “live” radio are numbered. Isn’t this application is arriving rather too late?

Unfortunately, ventnorlad, iow were in tranche 6 for dab services so these people are moving quite fast. Many people listen to live radio but use Alexa or google (or tv) to listen. Dab transmissions are great and allow a great number of stations to be made and broadcast locally. Internet is also a great listening medium but don’t forget they all need advertising to survive so the… Read more »
