Happy birthday balloons hung from a brick wall

Angel Radio, the Isle of Wight’s first Community radio station celebrates 24th birthday

Angel Radio Isle of Wight celebrates its 24th birthday on air this year and 16 years full time broadcasting on FM. Established in 1999, Angel Radio became the Island’s first Community radio station. We broadcast for the first eight years on restricted service licences that allowed us two 28 day slots per year.

Still run and staffed entirely by volunteers
Angel Radio then began broadcasting full time on the WightFibre network (then called WightCable) in 2001.

After a long struggle we were finally granted a full FM licence and since that wonderful day – 24th March 2007 we have been on air 24 hours a day for the last 16 years. We are still run and staffed entirely by volunteers.

Adventures, music and comedy
Angel Radio broadcasts all the old comedy programmes including Hancock’s half hour, the Goons, Around the Horn, Life with the Lyons and lots more.

There are adventures too: Journey into Space, The Lone Ranger, Gene Autrey, Hopalong Cassidy to name but a few. And of course, we play all the wonderful music from the years 1900 – 1969.

SOS – Save Our Station appeal
At the moment we are running our SOS – Save Our Station appeal for donations to try to raise funds to pay for our licence fees to keep us on air.

Angel Radio is the station you can swear by and not swear at.

Angel Radio – your station of nostalgia stars. We are the original Angel Radio here on the Isle of Wight.
