Figures published by the Office for National Statistics show that 4,430 people in the Isle of Wight area were claiming ‘out of work benefits’ during June 2021 – these figures also includes Universal Credit figures.

That’s a fall of 445 since May 2021, when there were 4,875  claimants, and a fall of 830 from June 2020 (5,260 JSA claimants).

Breakdown of claimants
Of those claiming in June 2021,

  • 2,635 were male
  • 1,795 were female
  • 5 were 16-17

  • (465 were aged 18 To 21)
