For any readers who work in Southsea, this appeal from the Police may be of interest. In their own words. Ed
Police and the Fire Service are currently on scene of a fire at Joanna’s Nightclub on South Parade in Southsea.
We were called at around 5.35pm this evening and expect to remain there for some time while fire fighters work to extinguish the blaze.
Eastern Area Chief Inspector, Ali Heydari, said: “It’s understandable that given the civil unrest in London, residents here may be concerned that this fire is a result of impending disorder in Portsmouth.
“I think it’s important that we clarify that while the cause of the fire is being investigated, initial enquiries do not point to arson.
“There is absolutely nothing to suggest this is linked to threats of disorder in Portsmouth.”
Police are appealing for any witnesses to the fire to contact Hampshire Constabulary on 101 or 0845 045 45 45.
