There was much speculation at the beginning of the month as to who was buying the Co-operative supermarket in Cowes.
The building is up for sale, but the sellers were remaining tight-lipped as to who might be taking their place when they move out.
A spokesperson for the Co-op supermarket had said OnTheWight,
“The Southern Co-operative is in discussion with another operator regarding the sale of its Terminus Road store, Cowes. We are unable to disclose more at this stage due to confidentiality agreements.”
Marks and Spencer?
A variety of supermarket providers were speculated as being the buyers, but all denied the claim.
The name of Marks and Spencer keeps raising its head, coming to OnTheWight from a variety of people.
However, Will Matthews decided to ask Marks and Spencer (suggested by Simon Haytack as a possible buyer) he got this following response.
“Oooooh we couldn’t possibly say, but keep your eyes peeled to local news for any announcements will be made there!”
Not the kind of response a corporate would normally give if it were untrue.
M&S: “Terminus Road is a site we’re looking at”
OnTheWight also got in touch with M&S who told us,
“We are always looking for good store locations and have an interest in expanding our offer in Cowes. Terminus Road is a site we’re looking at, however, we have nothing to confirm at this point.”
