Next Saturday afternoon, Ryde will play host to what’s set to be a knockout costume parade.
There are expected to be over a thousand pupils and their families taking part (as well as community organisations) who will be showing off their carnival costumes themed around great artists and masterpieces.
It’s been organised by our very own Isle of Wight Council’s Arts Unit in conjunction with the Adult and Community Learning Service and runs from Dover Park School (starting off at 1.15pm) through Ryde to the town’s Eastern Esplande Gardens.
Expect to see costumes inspired by artistic greats such as Salvador Dali, Van Gogh and Picasso. Councillor Melanie Swan (who is also cabinet member for Children’s Services), will have the difficult job of deciding which costume group is best in parade once they reach their final destination.
Luckily, she won’t have to make the choice by herself as other judges include Paul Ackereley, combined arts officer for Arts Council England and William Lewis from the National Quality Improvement Agency.
Everyone has worked extremely hard over the past few months to make their costumes, and it will be well worth a visit to Ryde on Saturday to check out their handiwork.
Keep your fingers crossed for dry, sunny weather.
