We reproduce the budget speech given by the Independent Group of councillors at last night's meeting. It lost with 23 votes against it and only 13 for.
Independent councillors release their alternative budget which sees amongst other things, a return to an affordable residents' parking permit, reinvestment in adult and social care, lifeguards for main seaside resorts and redevelopment of library support.

Independent Isle of Wight Councillors have tabled a 'State of the Island Debate' to be held during the Full Council meeting, at 6pm on Wednesday 25th January 2012, in County Hall, Newport.
Independent councillors say that assertions to the contrary, responsibility must lie with the current leader and cabinet members of the Isle of Wight Council who pushed through the provisions in question.
