In memory of Pete
When Freshwater resident Pete Holden passed away in the summer of 2021, his brother Chris was determined to find a charity on the Island to support in Pete’s name.
Now, not only has Chris decided on the given charity, but an event to celebrate Pete’s legacy has been organised for Friday 16th December.
A great loss to the Island
Anyone working in the music industry on the Island would have known Pete, who had a decades-long career in the music industry, helping to found the Womad Festival, and in more recent years was responsible for booking the acts for Rhythmtree Festival.
Independent Arts
Chris shares the news that he has decided on Independent Arts as the Island charity to support in Pete’s name.
As regular readers of News OnTheWight will know, the charity supports people of all ages through a variety of arts projects ranging from songwriting for vulnerable young people, to dancing and drawing for older residents and those with dementia.
How the event came about
Chris expains,
“When we contacted Independent Arts about making a donation in Pete’s name, they immediately responded with the idea of an event to celebrate his legacy.”

The evening will feature live music from JC Grimshaw, Paul Armfield, Angelina, Spartak and Eugenie, Depresstival, Brian Sharpe, George Street Kids, Duncan Jones, Cooly Haste, and many many more, the evening will be a showcase of song writing, with each act taking to the stage for two-three songs.

Tickets are still available for the event in Pete’s honour, being held this Friday 16th December at the Independent Arts Hub in Newport.
Tickets are £8 each and it’s BYOB*. Doors open at 7pm and the event is 18+.
All funds raised will benefit Independent Arts.
*The organisers respectively ask that BYOB is limited to either 4 cans/bottles of beer/cider, or 1 bottle of wine, per person*
