Siniez were announced on the blog a couple of weeks ago as the winners of the 2007 Platform One, Wight Noize auditions that are supported by Solo Promotions each year.
We thought we’d give you a little background on three Island lads (aged 14, 15 and 16) who will be playing on the main stage on Sunday at the Isle of Wight Festival.
Hailing from Fishbourne, Binstead and Shanklin are Joe Staunton who plays guitar and main vocals; joining him is James Gear, the bass man who also provides backing vocals and Harry Christensen who does his wonderstuff on the drums.
They formed in October last year and are quoted as “being unable to believe they will be opening the Sunday at the best festival on the planet!”
Their influences range from Bob Marley to Depeche Mode, Hendrix to Madness, and even Minus the Bear (whoever that is????) The music they produce is described as having an offbeat ska feel to indie/rock tunes. Hopefully they will be getting some music up on their MySpace soon!
This is a once in a lifetime chance for these lads which will help them grow in confidence and develop as a band. Along with playing the Isle Of Wight Festival they are also looking forward to a busy summer playing gigs with other local bands and recording an EP!
They will be joining many of the other Island bands playing The Bandstand on Saturday, as well as performing on the same stage as the Rolling Stones!
Well down lads, we wish you the very best of success in the future.
