Thanks to Chris Higgs for this news from Bardon Vectis. Ed
A team of volunteers from Bardon Vectis spent two days with the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust last week to help the local Trust with a chalk grassland restoration project at Eaglehead Reserve, near Ashey Down.
The teams totalling 16 employees from the local construction materials supplier worked with staff from the Wildlife Trust to cut back scrub and clear ash from the existing chalk grasslands.
Volunteers from Bardon Vectis make a real difference
Jamie Marsh, Isle of Wight Reserves Officer from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust said: “Conservation work in and around Eaglehead Reserve has been ongoing for a number of years. The wide expanses of grassland support a wonderfully rich diversity of plants, birds and insects so it is really important that we work to maintain these areas. The help of the local community, such as the volunteers from Bardon Vectis, makes a real difference to what we are able to achieve.”
The volunteering effort from Bardon Vectis forms part of an international initiative being run by parent company Aggregate Industries, encouraging each of its employees to give one working day to volunteering in their local communities in 2012.
Support the Wildlife Trust on a number of projects
Colin Jones, General Manager from Bardon Vectis said: “As a company, we regularly contribute to our local communities and have supported the Wildlife Trust on a number of projects both locally and across the UK. It is fantastic to be able to add further to this through our 2012 volunteering initiative.
“We thoroughly enjoyed working with the team at the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Trust, the results of which are so important in the promotion of biodiversity and landscape scale conservation.”
