Barton Manor Primary School last month had its second ‘Section 8’ visit from Ofsted since it was placed in Special Measures in July 2013.
The Inspector has reported the school is making reasonable progress toward the removal of special measures and that the local authority’s statement of action is now fit for purpose.
Improvements made
Some of the improvements highlighted by the Inspector include:
- Accurate assessments in place for reading, writing and mathematics
- Working with advisers for English and mathematics
- Evidence of increased levels of challenge in mathematics lessons – leading to accelerated progress
- Mental mathematics activities beginning to provide pupils with rapid recall of number facts they need
- Teaching improved since May 2013 inspection
- Planning more rigorous
- Reduction in amount of teaching that is inadequate
- Pupils’ attendance have improved significantly since the previous inspection
- Current levels of attendance are well above the national average
- Pupils spoke positively about the school
- The headteacher and the interim executive board are providing strong senior leadership
- Chair of the Interim Executive Board shows strong commitment to the improvement of the school
- The school is receiving a good level of support from the local authority
