Every so often, we’re asked at VentnorBlog, if we know what the plans for the Beachlands property on Ventnor seafront are.
For those interested, new plans have been submitted to the IW Council by the property owner and are now available to view online.
It appears that two applications have been submitted (along with the relevant Conservation Area Consent) for the demolition of the existing property. One application is to replace the property with a four storey set of four townhouses (pictured above) and the other with a three storey set of four townhouses (pictured below).
A previous application for a 3/4 storey set of townhouses was refused in August this year and is now the subject of an appeal.
The reasons for refusal were
1. By reason of it’s height, scale and massing, out of keeping with neighbouring properties and would fail to protect the character of conservation area
2. The detailed design by virtue of its stepped form, inappropriate balconies and fenestration and the inactive ground floor again fails to protect the character of the conservation area 3. The heritage statement do not fully justify the demolition of the existing building
