Many of the Island roads have taken a bit of a bashing over the Winter period with more potholes opening up.
Back in October, we heard that Beaper Shute, otherwise known as the Brading Road (A3055), would be getting refurbished this month. Well, today it’s been confirmed that they will be starting on Monday, 25 January, a little behind the originally anticipated 4 January, but understandable given the recent weather.
The work will be carried out between Whitefield Woods to Carpenters Road and includes Beaper Shute. It’s expected to last eight weeks with a scheduled completion date of 19 March.
Details of work
A new 50mph speed limit will be implemented and other works include resurfacing and renewing anti-skid measures, minor highway alterations, the introduction of new reflective cat’s eyes and high visibility warning signs and posts. Overgrown branches and other vegetation will also be cut back to improve visibility. Also included in the programme of works are resurfacing crossroads near Brading to the entrance to Whitefield Woods.
The downside is that temporary traffic lights will be in operation – hardly surprising for major works like these. We’re told that the traffic lights will be manually-controlled during peak hours to improve traffic flow.
